Let’s call this the lazy blogger edition of WIP Wednesday. There was progress this week: I (designed and) turned the heel on the Grateful Dyed socks and am well on the way to the toe, I added a stripe or two on the Jaywalkers and there’s at least a couple of inches more on Melody. My goal for the week: more on Melody. That’s it – no pictures, no other details ’cause I don’t feel like it! Besides, I’ve got a TON of contest entries to go through…
Contest winners get picked first thing in the morning!
Just a reminder – The Painted Sheep’s First Anniversary Sale and Contest end tomorrow, April 30 at 12 midnight. Once again, here’s the details on both:
THE SALE: From now through April 30, take 20% off your total purchase in our Etsy and online shops. When buying something from thepaintedsheep.com, just send a note to me indicating which items you’d like and I’ll send you a Paypal invoice with an adjusted total. See the website for specifics. In the Etsy shop, just put the code “Happy Anniversary” in the Buyer Notes to Seller and then to pay until I’ve sent you an adjusted Paypal invoice. As a special bonus, I’ll include a coupon for 10% off a later purchase with each order!
THE CONTEST: This is my little thank you to all of you! I’m giving out three prizes: a $50 Gift Certificate to my Etsy shop, a $25 Gift Certificate to my Etsy shop and a skein of The Painted Sock in Blue Note. There’s two ways to enter:
- Leave a comment here on the blog
- Tell me what you’ve done with your Painted Sheep yarn or roving. Just send an email to me at kris@thepaintedsheep.com with the details. Include a picture and you’ll get an extra entry! And yes, “I added it to my stash” counts too!

The contest ends at midnight E.S.T. on April 30, 2008. Enter as many times as you’d like between now and the end of the contest. I’ll draw three random winners on May 1, 2008. Winners to be notified by email. I’ll post a list of winners here on May 1, 2008.
I realized this morning that one, its really the end of April already (where did this month go???) and two, I’ve got a ton of emails, pictures and blog comments as entries for the contest! I’m making an entry slip for each one and putting them all into my favorite knitting bag – Everett and I will draw the lucky winners on Thursday morning. Thanks for playing along! Its been really fun! Later on, I’ll put the pictures together for a customer photo gallery on the website!
The first fiber festival of the season and the Yarn Harlot at Webs – in the same weekend – a fiber lover’s dream come true. The whole weekend was devoted to playing with fiber – it was perfect!
Connecticut Sheep and Wool was wonderful. I love how this festival grows each year. There were lots of vendors, a few demonstrations and lots of people. It was nice to see it so busy. As planned, I spun a bit, shopped a bit and spend time with friends – old and new. It was great to meet some of the people that I’ve only met online before – especially Sandi, who is a great customer and friend that I have emailed with many, many times only put a face to a name on Saturday. So much fun! I had time to spin, the first time since the last guild meeting. I made yarn! There’s three more completed mini skeins to use in the Justify Wrap. There was a bit of stash enhancement too – a t-shirt, beautiful silk hankies and tencel roving and from Dye Dreams (a new CT indie dyer), a skein of merino/tencel yarn and Knitspot’s Gust pattern to go with it. Perfect!
Yesterday, Everett and I ventured to Webs to see the Yarn Harlot. The place was packed!!! Stephanie gave a great talk at the Calvin Theatre. Afterwards, we went back to Webs for her book signing and shopping. I met her, got my book signed and posed with the sock!
You know your weekend was good when its Monday morning and you’re exhausted… Have a great Monday!
I just started our very own Ravelry Group – Painted Sheep Groupies! Check it out here. I sent out a bunch of invitations – all the usernames that I had. If I missed yours, go on over on and join! Not on Ravelry yet? What are you waiting for? Join, already! You’re missing all the fun
See you there!!!
Connecticut Sheep and Wool Festival is tomorrow, at the Tolland Agricultural Center in Vernon. Check out their website for details. Its a great festival – nice variety and lots of vendors, demos, etc but small enough to be intimate. I will be there, but not with a booth
I didn’t even pursue it, since the applications were coming out right around when I got my job offer – as much as I wanted to do it, my gut said that it would be too much all at once – a new job and my first major festival. My gut was right! I have plenty on my plate right now! I will be at the festival all day, spinning with the Nutmeg Spinners (we’re in the Red Barn, though we are not listed in the program), shopping and meeting up with friends. I do plan on heading to the Ravelry meetup at 12:30. I’ll be the (only) one in a Painted Sheep t-shirt!!!
It promises to be a great day! I am very much looking forward to some spinning time, some shopping and seeing everyone. Hope to see lots of you there!
I have sadly little progress to report this week. I’m blaming the weather – this amazing string of perfect days has me more interested in spring cleaning and sitting on the deck with a good book than knitting.
Here’s the rundown of my current WIPs:
- Jaywalkers: gained a couple of inches on the cuff. Now that I’ve gotten the hang of the pattern, they’re pretty mindless. I think I’m almost to the heel turn, but I’ve been too lazy to measure.
- Grateful Dyed Socks, with new pattern: Stalled at the heel. I have to work out a short row heel that I like and I haven’t had time to play with it yet.
- Melody Shawl: Slowly but surely, its getting there. There’s a small hole in the middle of the ball now – a sign that I’m actually using up some of that yarn!
The goals for the week are simple: add inches to Melody and figure out the heel on the Grateful Dyed socks.
