I took a little time off this weekend – more so than I originally planned. The month of June was exhausting for me. With training and the extra hours (though it wasn’t that many extra hours – it was more the late nights) I put in, I was fried. It ended last Monday. What I hadn’t mentioned here was that I had one more big work thing on my plate – on Thursday, I did a training for the whole agency at our annual retreat. Hello, I’m new, have just learned the subject myself and freak out a bit before public speaking! True to form, I was far too last minute for my own liking with putting my presentation together and was incredibly stressed about it on Tuesday and Wednesday and on Thursday morning. Apparently, none of this showed. With some help from my staff, it went beautifully. Phew! I was dead tired afterwards, to the point where I passed up the opportunity to spend the afternoon riding roller coasters with my colleagues (our retreat was at a local amusement park – I do love this job!) – instead I went home and crashed. I think this is what it took for me to realize that I need a real break this weekend. So, I essentially exiled myself to my house and out of my home office. Admittedly, an advertising deadline meant I had to do a few hours of Painted Sheep work on Saturday morning. The rest of the weekend, no work! I quietly read blogs periodically, poked around Ravelry and checked email. What I didn’t do was post anything, comment on blogs, respond to emails, etc until this morning. I stayed home all day Saturday. Margaritas and fajitas on the deck! It was great! I knitted and spun a lot – but even my knitting was mindless. Sunday was similar – church and errands in the morning and then home. I stayed in the A/C all afternoon – it was too hot even for the farmer’s market. It worked – I feel refreshed. I’m definitely ready to get back in the swing of things again. I caught up on emails this morning, filled orders and took care of some remained Painted Sheep stuff. What I really need to do now is an order for base yarns and fibers – time to get back into the dye studio! I’m rested and ready to play!
I didn’t do a whole lot of knitting this week. I met my goal, though barely: I did a pattern repeat on the Pavé socks. I spun some, making a couple more mini skeins for Justify. Last night, I got together with friends and pulled out the Morehouse scarf – I needed something really mindless to work on. I was laughing too much to focus! It was perfect (the knitting and the company) – and the end of the first ball of yarn is in sight. That’s it for the week.
As for goals for next week: finish the first ball of yarn for the Morehouse scarf, do a few rows on Oh! Canada and another pattern repeat on the Pavé socks. I should have a bit more knitting time, in part because I’m making myself take a little break. Ev and I promised each other that we would have a low key weekend. We plan to stay home all day Saturday and make fajitas and margaritas while we relax on the deck. Sunday, its church, Farmer’s Market, groceries and then home for the afternoon. No last minute plans, no rushing around trying to fit in as much as we can in two days – just time to relax at home. I’ll be knitting on the deck, margarita in hand
Training is done! I’m now certified and my life is returning to “normal”. Woo hoo! I can have a life again! I can catch up on things (like sleep). Thanks to all who have been so patient with me over the last several weeks.
They’re here! The patterns are all listed, along with three kits. Admittedly, this shop update is taking way longer than I expected. Nine more kits will be listed in the morning. Honestly, I know my limits – its bedtime in Painted Sheep land…
More tomorrow – trust me, its worth the wait!
I’ve been busy this afternoon, preparing to update the Shop with all of the Knitspot goodness that arrived last week. I had a grand time pairing my yarns and Anne’s lovely patterns into kits. I’ve got good news and bad news about the update. Good news first: everything is ready to go – there are several kits ready, and each of the 17 patterns will be available on its own. I listed two patterns (the Totally Autumn Throw and the Irtfa’a Shawl). The bad news: I’ve run out of time! I have a family commitment tonight, in the morning its church then a quick stop at the farmer’s market and then a spinning lesson (I’m teaching) in the afternoon. So, the rest of the update will wait until tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, check out what is in the Shop and this little sneak peak at what’s to come:

Tomorrow – I promise.
