Happy Halloween everyone!  We have big plans for tonight – trick or treating with the niece and nephew.  It promises to be a blast – at 2 1/2 and 3 1/2, they’re at a great age and will be so much fun!

Don’t forget our Halloween sale ends tonight!  One last day to take advantage of the 20% discount on your purchase…

Have a safe and happy day!

I saw it last night on the way to Webs – snow!  The lightest flurries south of Springfield, so light I wasn’t quite sure at first that it really was snow.  Then just as I was coming into Northampton more snow, this time a little heavier.  Magical!  I’ll never stop loving the first snow of the season.

May you find magic in your day!

Can you believe its the last Wednesday of October already?  My crochet class ends tonight, the election is now less than a week away (I can’t wait!) and Christmas will be here in under two months.  Where did this month go?

Note to self – must resume baby gift and Christmas knitting…  though I suppose that would mean putting down the crocheting.  Not going to happen quite yet.  There’s still a couple of class projects left to finish up.

All of my WIPs for the week are crocheted – I didn’t knit a single stitch.  I did crochet like crazy.  I finished the edging on my hat.  I loosened up significantly over the course of the project – it needs a bit of felting to fit better but otherwise, its done.  I added feet  to the matching crocheted scarf (ETA: that reads funny – feet as in length, not as in walking), so its about halfway done.  Now that I’ve got the pattern down, its quick and mindless.  I also crocheted a trinket bag out of sock yarn (Tofutsies).  The bag is almost done – just need to finish the ties during tonight’s class.  No pictures for you – I’ll take pictures of all my finished projects from class later this week.

My goals for the week: finish the bag, finish the scarf and work on the BSJ that I put aside.  I’d like to get back to spinning, if even for a few minutes.  I gave up on the 10 minutes a day spin along a while ago.  It just wasn’t happening daily.  The only spinning I’ve done recently is to pick up my new spindle and bag of silk (from Rhinebeck) periodically.  Unfortunately, the knee thing has kept me from my wheel – not being able to bend it for long periods or do anything repetitive.  The knee, which turned out to be a bad strain that irritated the tendon connected to my knee cap, is slowly starting to feel better.  If I push it, I pay dearly.  I’m hoping that by this weekend I can start to spin on the wheel for a few minutes at a time.  And I want to play in my dye studio – just hoping I can convince Ev to help me with anything that involves squatting, bending my knee or lifting.  Guess what I really want to do this week is play!

Have a great day!

Jumping on the band wagon here:

Maple Apple Crisp, same recipe that so many other bloggers have made recently.  I tried it a few weeks ago and made this one this morning – a double recipe for a potluck breakfast at work.  And it is as yummy as everyone says it is.  I added a pinch of nutmeg and a sprinkle of cinnamon to mine.  My only recommendation – its super sweet so stick with a nice tart apple.  Not being a fan of tart anything, I made it with Cortlands the first time.  Sweet overload!  Much better with an apple that’s got more pucker.  Today I used Macintosh.  Macouns or even Granny Smith would be good too.  Oh, and topping it with ice cream is a must – vanilla is my choice.

Its turned out to be a perfect day for apple crisp – rainy, cold and just plain yucky.  My only consolation is that we may see a snow flurry or two by the end of the day.  I just love the first snow of the season.  And I’m ready for it.  The winter clothes are switched over, the living room is re-arranged for the heat (the ideal set up blocks the radiators, so we’re forced to move things around during heating season) and I feel that longing to play in the snow that comes this time every year.  Its time.

Have a great evening – hope for snow flurries!

Its that time again!  Our 2nd Annual Halloween Sale is on!  Consider it my little trick or treat for my customers – 20% off all items (except Gift Certificates) in The Painted Sheep’s Etsy Shop.  Just choose your items, checkout as usual and put “Halloween” in the Buyer Notes to Seller on the Etsy checkout page.  Then wait for me to send you an adjusted invoice before paying.  Sale runs through Friday, October 31.

Happy Halloween from The Painted Sheep!

Finally, a quiet weekend with no obligations to go anywhere or do anything.  This is the first weekend since oh, about Labor Day in which I haven’t had a single thing on the schedule.  Tomorrow is a remarkably ordinary Sunday – church (haven’t been in at least a month and a half?) followed by the last farmer’s market of the season.  Its quiet and relaxed.  There’s stuff to do, yes, but I feel little pressure to do anything at all.  Tomorrow we’ll do some yard word (weather permitting).  Today, I’m switching my summer clothes with my winter clothes and doing some random things for the business.  Other than that, its a whole lot of relaxing.  The cats are loving this change of pace.  I was veritably held down in the living room armchair all morning (not that I fought it) with a kitty pile, until I relented and took a two hour nap.  I’ve been crocheting, poking through some of the fall knitting magazines that have been sitting around untouched and just enjoying some down time.  Our big plan for evening is to make some mac and cheese and watch a movie.  Just right.
